About the Exhibition

This annual exhibit at Boston City Hall art will demonstrate the power of art, artists and artmaking to address, confront, challenge, and indeed transform the impact of violence on individuals, families, communities, and nations. In 2019, we are hoping to focus, particularly, on the role of artists as activists able to address such issues as bigotry, inequality, and the abuse of power by the powerful. We asked artists to “Step Up” to the challenges posed by violence. Exhibit themes will include addressing issues of immigration, social justice and the revival of progressive American activism.
